Types of Therapy
The three main interventions (depending on the diagnosis) I use are ERP, ACT, and CBT. Read below for more information on each of them!

Exposure and Response Prevention
Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) is the gold-standard for OCD treatment. So what is it?
-
It helps people face their fears (gradually) without engaging in compulsions or rituals.
-
Over time, the brain learns that the fear isn't as threatening as it feels and you get desensitized.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is a third-wave form of CBT therapy. So what is it?
-
Helps people change the relationship with their thoughts, not necessarily the content of the thought.
-
Helps promote psychological flexibility, by helping people to notice, accept emotions and thoughts without being caught up in them.
-
Helps people live more in line with their values, even if they have difficult thoughts or feelings that come up.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a popular type of therapy. So what is it?
-
It helps people see the link between thoughts-emotions-behaviors
-
Helps people evaluate their thoughts and unhelpful thinking patterns
-
Helps people become aware of and change previously learned unhelpful behavior patterns
-
Provides practical strategies to help with coping and behavior change
-
ERP is under the CBT umbrella
